Earlier today, Colorado’s Winter Parkannouncedthe opening of its Cirque Territory for the 2021-22 season. This high-alpine area hosts the overwhelming majority of the resort'’s advanced and expert bowl terrain and features steep, obstacle-riddled lines.
After an operational hiatus for the 2020-21 season due to COVID, the resort’s Cirque Sled—a trailer pulled by a snowcat that traverses Cirque Territory—is returning for winter 2022. But unlike previous seasons, when riding the Sled required an extra $20 season pass, Sled access is now included on all Winter Park ticket and pass products. The Sled will run on select days with favorable weather throughout the remainder of the core season.
There is no direct lift access to Cirque Territory. When the Sled is not running, the only way to access this zone is through a 20-minute hike.
Our Take
Compared to other Colorado resorts, one of Winter Park’s key deficiencies is its lack of lift-serviced advanced and expert bowl terrain. The Cirque is really the only area that offers this type of footprint, and the Cirque Sled provides key access to this terrain, allowing guests to avoid an undesirable hike. It was a hassle to stop at the base to buy a separate add-on product in previous years, and getting rid of this process makes Cirque Sled access much more practical and affordable for resort guests.
