Stevens Pass Offering Renewal Discounts Following Rough Start to Season

Updated:

October 13, 2024

A ride up Stevens Pass’s Southern Cross chair last winter. As of the end of January, this lift still hasn’t spun for the 2021-22 season.

Background

Stevens Pass is offering season passholders renewal discounts for 2022-23, as per ablog postby theirnew general manager.Any individual whose pass provides 2021-22 access to Stevens Pass is eligible for this deal.

The resort is offering $150 discounts on adult, child, and teen season pass renewals, while seniors get a $50 discount. Stevens Pass season passholders who opt for a different Epic product for 2022-23, including an Epic, Epic Local, Epic Military, 4-7 Epic Day Pass, or Edge Card, will not receive a renewal discount; instead, these guests will receive a $150 credit that can be used at the resort for tickets, lessons, and other amenities.

These renewal discounts follow a very slow start to Stevens Pass’s seasondue to staffing struggles. The offer expires on May 30, 2022.

Our Take

These policies aren’t actually that useful for Epic passholders, as they don’t provide any discount to access Stevens (although guests will get a nice per-diem at the resort). For Stevens Pass passholders, the renewal discounts seem like a solid deal on paper, but with Vail Resorts royally screwing up the rollout to this season even as competitors were 100% open for weeks—and offering no refunds for the current season—we imagine at least some of these guests will still choose to take their business elsewhere.

Stevens is doing much better than it was earlier this season, but as of today, the mountain still hasn’t spun its Double Diamond and Southern Cross chairs. The effectiveness of these discounts in mitigating attrition will likely depend on how much longer they stay down.
