UPDATE5/31/2020:The sale has now been extended to July 5th.
Sierra-at-Tahoe has sent us an email announcing the rollback of Spring Sale 20/21 season pass prices and the extension of the sale to May 31st, 2020. Sierra has dropped the price of the adult Unlimited Pass from $449 to $409 and the blackout-date Play Pass from $379 to $349. Renewing passholders will get 10% off. More information and pricing for additional passes can be foundhere.
In addition, Sierra has introduced the “Play It Forward Guarantee,” which is very similar in concept to Ikon’sAdventure Assurance. It offers 20/21 pass purchasers the option to defer their pass to the 21/22 season with no questions asked before December 10, 2020.
Our Take
Following policy changes from majorpassproductsin the wake of COVID-19, it looks like we’re seeing some local mountains following in their footsteps. Sierra’s is among the cheapest season passes in the Lake Tahoe area, and their price rollback comes after their unfortunately timed March 13 announcement that 20/21 pass buyers would have unlimited access for the rest of 19/20 season (the resort closed for the season only a few days later).
Like with Ikon, passholders will have to make a deferment decision by December. While this isn’t as flexible as Epic’s cancellation policy, we’re glad that those who live in the area looking for a cheaper option will now have some sort of COVID-19 coverage.
Sierra’s Unlimited and Play season passes also come with 3 free weekday and 50% off weekend passes at Powder Alliance resorts. We believe these benefits will carry over to the 21/22 season in the event of a deferment, although the partner resorts may change.
We think this move is a step in the right direction from Sierra, and we hope this provides some certainty for nearby residents looking to buy a ski pass but not looking to drop the big bucks.
