Score Change: Copper Quietly Adds New Trails for 2021-22
Updated:
October 13, 2024
Background
Copperquietly expanded its skiable footprint for the 2021-22 season, opening a section of previously roped-off terrain just below the Timberline Express lift and adding three new trails. Two of the three new trails, Timber Road and Lyman Lane, are beginner runs, while the third, Pine Cone Alley, is rated intermediate.
The new trails have likely been opened in anticipation of the new Lumberjack lift, which will provide service to all of them and is set for completion for 2022-23.
Reasoning
Copper’s skiable footprint expanded ever-so-slightly this winter, but the expansion is just big enough to bump it up by a point in our size category. Previously, Copper had missed the next rung up by a mere 10 acres. A 2,500-acre skiable footprint is our threshold for a size score of 8, and by jumping from 2,490 to 2,507 acres, the resort has now cleared this hurdle.
Copper now beatsBreckenridgeandAspen Highlandsin our Colorado rankings and is tied withArapahoe Basinfor 6th in the state.
