Ratings Change: Consistency to Resiliency

Here at PeakRankings, we aim to provide the most helpful and transparent content we can. That being said, we’re always iterating on our methodology and decided this week to make a change to our Mountain Score ratings scale.
Starting today, we’ve replaced the Consistency category with Resiliency. The Consistency category factored in each mountain’s snowmaking capability, weather-hold resistance, and ability to maintain accumulated snow. These factors do help predict how consistent a mountain’s conditions will be, but no resort truly offers the same experience over the course of any given season, day, or even hour due to high variance in natural snowfall and weather.
We found that the factors above were more representative of whether a resort could get back on its feet quickly after a spell of unfavorable weather. Hence, we’ve decided that the word “Resiliency” fits the category better. We hope this change helps you better assess your mountain options as you plan future ski trips.
