Ratings Adjustment: Tremblant and Mount Baker Snow Scores

The below changes come as part of a series of PeakRankings Mountain Score recalibrations implemented today. To see the full list of adjustments, clickhere.
Here at PeakRankings, we aim to provide the most helpful and transparent content we can. That being said, we’re always iterating on our PeakRankings Mountain Score methodology and decided to change the Snow score for two resorts today. Both resorts maintain very distinct snow characteristics compared to the other mountains we’ve reviewed so far, and after following their past few winters, we believe a few refinements are in order.
Tremblant
Snow Score Change: 5 to 6
Thanks to its Quebec location and colder temperatures than Vermont competitors, Canada’s Tremblant holds high-quality snow a bit better than we previously gave it credit for. The resort falls just short of Killington in average seasonal snowfall, and freeze-thaw cycles that often hit other East Coast resorts are not quite as frequent at Tremblant. These traits result in clear snow quality advantages that we believe weren’t adequately reflected in our existing score criteria.
Mount Baker
Snow Score Change: 9 to 8
Mount Baker is a really hard resort to place in terms of snow quality. The resort regularly receives the highest quantity of snowfall of any resort in North America, typically seeing over 600 inches of accumulation in a single season. However, snow often wet and heavy after a few hours of no accumulation, and the mountain occasionally sees rain during the core season. Despite offering one of the highest likelihoods for a powder day—and sometimes boasting constant powder refills—Baker’s conditions just aren’t that exceptional when snowfall isn’t fresh.
This adjustment comes along with a series of score changes and category recalibrationsreleased in full today.Tremblant’s overall PeakRankings Mountain Score remains the same as before due toa tweak to our Mountain Aesthetic category,but the resort jumps one spot, both regionally and overall, to2nd on the East Coastand40th overall.Mount Baker’s Mountain Score drops by one point, but still ranks2nd in Washingtonand33rd overall.
