Killington and Mount Snow Delay 2020-21 Openings, Loveland to Open Tomorrow

Updated:

October 13, 2024

This week, bothKillingtonandMount Snowannounced they would be delaying their initially planned 2020-21 opening dates. Both Vermont resorts planned to open on Saturday, November 14, but temperatures in the 60s this week forced pauses on snowmaking, making this date infeasible.

On the other hand,Loveland Ski Areamade its 2020-21 opening announcement today. The resort will open tomorrow, November 11 at 9am, spinning the Chet’s Dream high-speed quad and offering access to three top-to-bottom trails.

Our Take

While later than usual due to COVID-19 considerations, Killington and Mount Snow had planned to open earlier than other Vermont resorts thanks to extensive snowmaking operations. However, artificial snow is still no match for Mother Nature, and there’s really nothing the resorts could do about the abnormally high temperatures.

Loveland’s announcement comes on the heels of those made by nearby Keystone and Arapahoe Basin. All three of these resorts have opened a few weeks later than usual due to COVID-19 concerns and an unfavorable early October for snow. It looks like a few recent storms and heavy snowmaking have made it possible for these resorts to get up and running.
