Ikon Lowers Pass Prices, Extends Date For Cheapest Rate

Updated:

October 13, 2024

This afternoon, we received a press release from Alterra (here) announcing the extension of the cheapest price for the 20/21 Ikon Pass to May 26th, 2020. Ikon has dropped the current renewal price for both the base ($649 to $599) and full ($899 to $799) passes, doubling the initial discount. In addition, they’ve added a discount for nurses. Passholders who already renewed will retroactively receive these discounts.

Our Take

This is a huge deal for those who decided to renew, especially those who have been putting their lives on the line to combat COVID-19. It’s unclear how nurses who have already renewed passes will receive the extra discount, but we think a call to customer service should do the trick.

The pass still doesn’t carry insurance for resort operation suspensions due to the coronavirus. It’s still unclear when the economic, social, and personal health effects of this pandemic will subside, and many people will still understandably be reluctant to put down money for a pass they may not be able to use next season (or afford if they get furloughed or laid off). However, the extra month to decide should hopefully clear things up.

We think this move is a major step in the right direction from Alterra. There’s been no similar announcement from Vail thus far.
