(Expired) Limited $108 Silverton Season Passes ($206 with Partner Resort Days)

Silverton Mountain has announced that they’re selling a very limited number of significantly discounted 2021 unguided season passes. This unpatrolled resort, which only has one chairlift and requires avalanche gear, is offering base passes for just $107.95 ($99 + $8.95 shipping). These passes are valid Wednesday-Sunday starting on March 17, 2021—the resort is closed to unguided visitors on Mondays and Tuesdays and before mid-March. Customers who purchase these passes also get a private passholder-only day (Monday, March 15) and the option to purchase one heli run for only $39.
For an additional $98 (total price $205.95), you can upgrade to a Premium Pass, which gets you access to 2 days of skiing at Monarch (with blackouts), Arapahoe Basin and Sugar Bowl, and 3 days of skiing at Sunlight, Powderhorn, Snow King, Brundage (with blackouts), Mt. Baldy, Sundance, Eaglecrest and Red Lodge.
For $36 on top of the Premium Pass (total price $241.95), you can lock in discounted rates on a number of other experiences.
Like other resorts, Silverton has updated their policies to address potential COVID-19 season interruptions. If the 20/21 season is interrupted or cancelled, the resort will offer prorated season pass credits for the 21/22 season depending on how many days were used. However, partner passes are not subject to the same policies and may be lost in the event of season interruptions.
Verdict
We haven’t reviewed Silverton, but we felt this pass warranted discussing due to its eye-popping advertised price. While the season pass may be a spring-skiing steal to experts in southwest Colorado, we think the real kicker for most people will come with the upgrade to the Premium Pass, which gets you 2-3 days each at 10 partner mountains (of which we’vereviewedtwo) in the Rockies and on the West Coast. For those looking to primarily take weekend trips to smaller, local-feeling mountains (and willing to fly), this could cover ticket expenses for the entire season. TheIndy Passoffers a similar value proposition, but it doesn’t go on sale until September 1.
The pass deferment policy should be a plus for those primarily looking to ski at Silverton. It should be interesting to see how the resort goes about prorating a $99 product.
The big caveat for those looking to buy the Premium upgrade is that it’s unclear whether the partner passes will be eligible to roll over to a future season. If you’re interested in the deal primarily for the partner resorts, you may be out of luck if next season gets upended. Ikon Pass products are at least three times more expensive, but their deferral policy makes them much more secure.
