Alta’s Nina’s Curve and Schuss Gully trails have officially merged, as perdetective work carried out by Unofficial Networks. The resort has now razed the terrain between the two trails and graded the hill to offer a smoother descent. According to management, the decisionwas madeto address unsafe congestion and accommodate a growing intermediate demographic.
Our Take
While it’s technically as simple as cutting down a few trees and re-leveling the ground, it’s incredibly rare to see a resort make a trail adjustment like this on non-expansion terrain. Nina’s Curve was a great short black-diamond run for those beginning to reach advanced proficiency, but it looks like the merger with Schuss Gully will bring a wider footprint and leveled topography that may turn the merged terrain into more of an intermediate trail. This decision will surely disappointthousands of Alta loyalists and conservationists, but the one silver lining is that the mountain still has more than enough advanced terrain elsewhere.
